40 Architects under 40 is a catalogue of the next generation of international star architects as judged from the late 1990s viewpoint. Published by Taschen in 2000, the book gives an intriguing outlook towards what is regarded as the most promising architectural talent: “the Norman Fosters, Richard Meiers and Tadao Andos of tomorrow”.

The book has been compiled by Jessica Cargill Thompson, and the texts are in English, French, and German. There is a short bio of each architect or architectural team and a couple of samples from their architectural production. The showcased names include Shigeru Ban, MVRDV, Gigon/Guyer, UN Studio, and many other offices that have undoubtedly fulfilled the prediction since the publication. One Finnish team is included in 40 Architects under 40: Artto Palo Rossi Tikka features their Sibelius Congress and Concert Hall in Lahti, and the Raisio Library Auditorium in Raisio.
