800 Years of Finnish Architecture by J. M Richards claims to be the only available book in English which gives a comprehensive account of Finnish architecture form the 12th century until today. Here “today” means late 1970s and sadly enough, there has not been much progress in the book front since then.
Despite for its age, Richards presents the key developments of Finnish architecture in a highly professional manner. The newest works included are e.g. Temppeliaukio Church in Helsinki by Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen (1969), Helsinki City Hall renovation by Aarno Ruusuvuori (1970), and Civic Theatre and Library in Oulu by Marjatta and Martti Jaatinen (1972).
The copy currently in stock is in good condition. The dust jacket shows some edge wear and toning, that’s all.
