Alvar Aalto: The Finnish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale is a monograph that showcases Alvar Aalto’s design for the Finnish Pavilion built for the 1956 Venice Biennale. The publication was produced to document the pavilion’s history and to celebrate the transfer of ownership from the Finnish government to the Venice Biennale and the Raccolta Alvar Aalto Foundation at the turn of the 1990s.

The richly illustrated book contains articles by Göran Schildt, Elissa Aalto, Fredrik Fogh, Federico Marconi, Francesco Venezia, and Timo Keinänen. The authors explore, for example, Aalto’s architectural and technical ideas, the history of the project, the restoration process in the 1970s, and Finnish artists’ exhibition history at the Venice Biennale. The book also contains Alvar Aalto’s own project description and a selection of correspondence between Aalto’s practice and the various parties involved with the pavilion project.
