Architecture + Art: New Visions, New Strategies contains the lectures held at the 2nd International Research Conference on Modern Architecture which was organised by the Alvar Aalto Academy in Jyväskylä, Finland, in 2007. The conference brought together art and architecture historians, architects and artists to reflect the intersection between art and architecture from a contemporary angle.

The contributors are Caroline Bos,  Larry Busbea, Lucy Creagh, Fernanda Fernandes, Romy Golan, Branden W. Joseph, Andres Kurg, Joan Ockman, Juhani Pallasmaa and Felicity D. Scott. The book has been edited by Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen, the chair of the conference, and Esa Laaksonen, the director of the Alvar Aalto Academy.

When we think about intersections between art and architecture what first comes to mind are moments in history when art looked like architecture and vice versa; we think of de Stijl compositions with floating planes and the abstraction of the Rietveld House. We are reminded of architects, like Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto, who were accomplished painters (…) A closer look at these intersections triggers a set of further inquiries: what role did they play in the history of modern architecture? What was the historical logic in when and where such interactions occurred? How do we make sense of the disciplinary boundaries between architecture and art?
— Eeva-Liisa Pelkonen, Introduction. In Architecture + Art: New Visions, New Strategies, p. 8.
