Its more than 400 illustrations provide a visual introduction to nearly 10,000 years of building: from Viking structures to Renaissance housing projects, medieval stave churches to modern crematoriums.
Professor Donnelly’s comprehensive work shows the idiosyncratic and highly original features of Scandinavian architecture. Scandinavian architects used their own resources and traditions, but also adapted the styles of medieval, Renaissance, baroque, and modern Europe. Her account begins with the earliest know remains of dwellings dating to around 7500 B.C. and closes with the commercial buildings of the 1970s. Architecture in Finland is presented against this Scandinavian backdrop and discussed in relation to similar building types built at the same time elsewhere. The solution gives Finnish architecture a natural and historically accurate context.
The copy for sale is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows some wear, but otherwise, the book is practically faultless.
