The texts are by leading experts in the field at the time: Ernst J. Grube, James Dickie, Oleg Grabar, Eleanor Sims, Ronald Lewcock, Dalu Jones, and Guy T. Petherbridge. The chapters deal with architecture and society from the perspectives of religion, power hierarchies, trade and travel, architects and craftsmen, elements of decoration, and vernacular architecture. The book concludes by introducing the key monuments of Islamic architecture in Arabia, Spain, North Africa and Sicily, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Central Asia and Afghanistan, Indian subcontinent, West and East Africa, and the Far East.

The book has English text and “with 758 illustrations, 112 in colour”.

The copy in our stock is in good condition. The pages are clean with no markings, and the binding is fine. There is only some age-related yellowing on the edges of the pages. The dust jacket has some slight signs of shelf wear and use, but no distinctive edge wear. There is an old price sticker on the back cover.
