Atelier Alvar Aalto: Bauten und Projekte – Bâtiments et projects – Buildings and Schemes 1950–1951 (Verlag für Architektur, 1954) by Eduard und Claudia Neuenschwander gives a thoroughly contextualised outlook to Alvar Aalto’s architecture and Finnish culture. The book opens with an essay about Finnish cultural history and its buildings – such as the sauna, Hattula church, C. L. Engel’s monumental architecture and so forth – and explains Aalto’s architectural thinking from this cultural standpoint. The latter part of the book analyses Aalto’s key works from 1950–1951.

The texts are in German, English and French. The book has been generously illustrated with photographs and architectural drawings.

The copy currently in our stock is in relatively good condition for its age. The binding is fine and the pages are clean without markings, but they show some toning. The dust jacket is somewhat worn with clear signs of edge wear, shelf wear and use.
