Building in the USSR 1918–1932 (ed. O.A. Shvidkovsky; Studio Vista, 1971) is an early comprehensive presentation of Russian Constructivist architecture.  The book is based on a special issue edited by Shvidkovsky for the Architectural Design magazine February 1970. Contributions by S.O. Khan-Mahomedov, V. Khazanova, V. Rakitin, A. Chinyakov, Yu. Gerchuk, V.N. Beloussov, M.G. Barkhin, and V.V. Kyrilov.

The ideals and intrepid experimentation of the Constructivists are still communicable and they still matter today. Their battles have not been won, whether in Russia or the West. Growing interest, both within the Soviet Union and elsewhere, in the pioneers of Constructivist architecture and their achievements therefore makes a reappraisal of the individual architects who created the historic years of Constructivism particularly interesting and timely.
