Church Builders traces developments in sacral architecture and examines the changes in architecture and theology of the 20th century. The book also gives an illustrated account of influential church builders and their key works. These “church builders” include, for example, Tadao Ando, Heikki and Kaija Siren, Philip Johnson, Mario Botta, Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, and Juha Leiviskä, to name a few.

The book is richly illustrated with photographs and architectural drawings of both historical and modern church examples. The book also contains Edwin Heathcote’s essay titled “The twentieth-century church: the enigma of sacred objectivity” and Iona Spens’s analysis “Movements of the spirit” that explains insightfully the architectural examples.
