Crafting a Modern World – The Architecture and Design of Antonin and Noèmi Raymond (Princeton Architectural Press, 2006) examines an enchanting missing chapter in the history of mid-century modernism through the story and legacy of husband and wife design team. Contributions by Mari Sakamoto Nakahara,  Ken Tadashi Oshima, Christine Vendredi-Auzanneau, William Whitaker, Kurt Helfrich, Kenneth Frampton, and Ann Luton.

This is the first comprehensive book in English on the duo that creatively transformed design from 1917 to 1866. Best known for a series of finely detailed structures built in Japan during the 1930s, the Raymonds combined their European modern roots with the vernacular craft traditions they discovered while living in regions as divers as Japan, India, and rural Pennsylvania. The two collaborated with some of the twentieth century’s leading thinkers and artist, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Cass Gilbert, Isamu Noguchi, George Nakashima, and Fernand Léger, but their prolific careers as designers in their own right – spanning many realms of design including architecture, graphics, furniture, and textiles – produced a body of truly inspiring work.
