The Museums of the Last Generation – Die Museumbauten der Neuen Generation by Joseph M. Montaner and Jordi Oliveras (Karl Krämer Verlag 1987) presents a selection of new and interesting museums built in the 1970s and 1980s.
This book presents a selection of the most interesting museums not only projected but also built in the whole world during the last ten years. Museums buildings have been experimenting a substantial increase in the last decade, playing a main role in the contemporary architectural debate. Museum design is an important part of the latest works done by the leading figures of actual architecture such as Venturi, Meier, Pelli, Pei, Foster, Gehry, Hollein, Stirling, Moneo, Isozaki, Ungers, etc. The 431 selected examples from U.S., West-Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Japan, etc. are shown through a description and a complete graphic information (sketches, plans, photos). The book also offers an introduction in which the authors analyze the characteristics and typological novelties of this last museums generation, as well s the synthetic value that this kind of architecture represents versus the rest of actual architecture.
