Dreaming for the Future (ed. Anna-Maija Ylimaula) reflects the theoretical frameworks and philosophy of the The Future Home Graduate School, a former collaborative PhD programme hosted by the Future Home Institute of University of Art and Design Helsinki. The publication is linked to a conference held in Helsinki on 17–19 May 2001. The Future Home Graduate School was an endeavour of a cross-disciplinary consortium of 35 member organizations and companies. Their goals included the enhancement of R&D projects that paid attention to user orientation, design for all, barrier-free environment, aesthetic quality, usability of information technology etc. especially in housing design.

The book contains six articles that discuss scenarios of urban living, architecture and product design. The authors are the then students of the school: Antti Pirinen, Cindy Kohtala, Antero Innamaa, Maarit Kaipiainen, Tuula Isohanni and Kivi Sotamaa. The illustrations are colour photographs taken by students of the UIAH photography school and the OCEAN North studio.

The texts are in English. The book is a parallel publication to Designing for the Future (2001) by the same publisher.

The copy in our stock is in decent condition. The covers have some colour stains (more on the front cover) and there are traces of some humidity exposure in the first half of the pages. The binding is fine, though, and the pages are clean without any markings.
