GA Document Special Issue 2 : Modern Architecture 1851–1919 (A.D.A. Edita Tokyo Co, 1981) maps the transition period to modernism. The text is by Kenneth Frampton; the editor is Yukio Futagawa.

The contents are divided into five chapters: 1) Glass, Iron, Steel, and Concrete 1775–1915; 2) The Chicago School of Architecture: The City and the Suburb 1830–1915; 3) The Structure and Symbolism of the Art Nouveau 1851–1914; 4) Otto Wagner and the Wagnerschule 1894–1912; and 5) Industrial Production and the Crisis of Culture 1851–1910. The narrative is organised around project analyses in chronological order.

The texts are in Japanese and English, and the rich illustration consists of architectural photographs and drawings.

The copy currently in our stock is in good condition. The pages are clean without any markings, and the glueing of the binding is fine. There is some age-related yellowing on the upper edges of the pages, and the covers show some small shelf wear and signs of use.
