Greek Traditional Architecture (Vol. 1, Melissa Publishing House, 1983) by Dimitri Philippides studies traditional settlement and vernacular buildings in Greece. Volume 1 covers Eastern Aegean, Sporades, and Ionian Islands.

Greek traditional architecture is from a period roughly comprising five centuries (15th to 20th cens.) uniting medieval Hellenism with the present, a valuable point of reference in the quest for modern Greek identity. The objective of this publication is the gathering together of scattered material, including the presentation of material which has been unpublished up till now, so as to give as complete a picture as possible of traditional architecture, thus contributing to the appreciation and the preservation of the architectural wealth of Greece. The subject of this study is the traditional settlement as an entity, as well as the isolated secular monuments included there in, excluding the ecclesiastical buildings and any neoclassical structures built roughly after the middle of the 19th century.
