Helsinki sisältä – Helsingforsinteriörer – Helsinki Interiors is an exhibition catalogue that looks inside of public buildings in Helsinki. The book consists of 8 essays that study specific buildings, the preservation of historic interiors and the Helsinki atmosphere. The exhibition, organised by the Finnish Association of Interior Architects SIO, was on display in Helsinki in 1996.

The Helsinki Interiors book wants to take the reader inside of the common ‘living rooms’ of the city. The authors are art historians, architects, architectural historians and artists. Hanna Karkku, Iris Helkama, Timo Hämäläinen, Carla Enbom, Mona Schalin, Jüri Kokkonen, Jyri Kermik and Jan Verwijnen. Their topics discuss, for example, the genius loci of the Helsinki University Library, the Taidehalli art gallery, cinemas and interior decoration in the 1920s, and the Helsinki Ice Stadium. The book wishes to open new perspectives in interior design. The motto is expressed with Pentti Saarikoski’s lovely poem “When I came to Helsinki”.

The copy in stock is in very good condition. The book is clean and tidy, and the covers show some minor shelf wear.
