Houses of Steel (Images Publishing, 2009) presents the winning entries for Living Steel’s International Architecture Competitions 2006–2008. The book showcases 48 awarded designs of steel homes submitted during the three competition cycles. Besides the designs and their architects, the book presents the jurors and the international competition programmes.

The Living Steel programme, launched by the World Steel Association, is a five-year worldwide collaborative programme designed to stimulate innovative and responsible housing design and construction and to help address the unprecedented pressure on infrastructure, communities and the quality of people’s lives stemming from growing urban populations.
To promote the use of steel in sustainable housing and to inspire architects around the world to address the urgent need for low-coset-urban housing, Living Steel established a programme of international architectural competitions (…)
It is Living Steel’s hope that publishing these exceptional designs will inspire yet more architects to incorporate steel in housing design and to further expand the role that the worldwide architectural community an play in the development of solutions to the growing housing crisis.
