Kazuo Shinohara: 16 Houses & Architectural Theory (Bijyutsu Shuppansha, 1971) presents the selected 16 housing designs by the Japanese architect Kazuo Shinohara (1925–2006) and his design thinking that builds on the Japanese tradition of living. The book has been compiled by Kazuo Shinohara together with Shukora Habara, Kunihiko Takei, and Yoshiko Nihei.
The houses analysed are The House at Kugayama, Mr. Tanigawa’s House, The Houses at Komae, Chigasaki, Karakasa, Hanayama, The House with a Big Roof, The House with an Earthen Floor, The House in White, The House of Earth, Mr. Yamashiro’s House, The Suzusho’s House, Mr. Shino’s House, and The Uncompleted House.
The text is in Japanese and English. The book is lavishly illustrated with black-and-white photographs and architectural drawings.
