New Vernacular Architecture by Vicky Richardson (Laurence King Publishing, 2001) analyses the synthesis of tradition and modernity in contemporary architecture. The book discusses 37 international buildings by both international architects such as David Chipperfield, Sverre Fehn, Glenn Murcutt, Caruso St John Architects, and Renzo Piano, and compares them with some lesser-known projects from Hungary, Nepal, Latvia and elsewhere. One of the featured projects is the Sibelius Hall in Lahti by architects Hannu Tikka and Kimmo Lintula.

Vicky Richardson’s introduction presents a historical analysis of the vernacular in architecture and its perennially difficult position within our understanding of modernity. The book has been richly illustrated with colour photographs and architectural drawings.
