Peter Behrens – Moderne architekten (Georg Müller und Eugen Rentsch München, 1913) is an early, rarely available monograph of Peter Behrens (1868–1940) compiled by Fritz Hoeber. The book itself is a beautiful item: Fraktur typeface, illuminated initial, and carefully designed layout. The contents covers Behrens’s career and gradual architectural development towards Modernism, and his personal style and biography.

Architektur ist die rhythmische Verkoerperung des Zeitgeistes. Architektur ist die sinnliche Philosophie des Raumes.

The text is in German. The book is illustrated with black-and-white photos and architectural drawings.

Our copy is in nice condition for its age. The binding is solid, the pages are clean, the covers are worn but still in good shape. The front flyleaf has been signed by the previous owner, architect Ole Gripenberg (1892–1979).
