Renzo Piano – The Spirit of Nature Wood Architecture Award 2000 presents the essential works by Renzo Piano, the Italian architect and the renowned master of modern craftsmanship in architecture. Piano was the winner of the first international wood architecture award The Spirit of Nature awarded in Finland. Since 2000, the awardees have included Kengo Kuma (2002), Richard Leplastrier (2004), Peter Zumthor (2006), Josè Cruz Ovalle (2008), Hermann Kaufmann (2010), Bijoy Jain (2012), and Mika Airaksela (2015). The Spirit of Nature award was set up by the Wood in Culture Association to promote and foster the use and image of timber.

The book is a small catalogue that introduces to the main works completed in the 1980s and the 1990s and the working principles of the Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The showcased projects are: Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre (1991–98), Renzo Piano Building Workshop (1989–94), Prometeo Musical Space (1983–84), IBM Travelling Pavilion (1983–86), Menil Collection (1981–86), Columbus International Exposition ’92 (1988–92), Lingotto Auditorium (1983–94) and Beyeler Foundation (1992–97). The book also contains an introductory essay by Rainer Mahlamäki, the then-chairman of the jury, and an essay by Glenn Murcutt.
