Rob Krier’s  Architectural Composition (Academy Editions, 1988) is both theoretical and visual analysis of the principles of architectural form-giving. Krier ( b. 1938) is a Luxembourgian architect, urban planner, theorist, and sculptor. He’s best known for his work within the Postmodernist school-of-thought and his developments in neoclassical architecture and new urbanism.

The copy in stock is in good condition. The dust jacket shows some normal signs of wear, and the edges of the pages are a bit yellowed. The front flyleaf has been stamped by the previous owner.

Rob Krier’s  Architectural Composition from 1988 is both theoretical and visual analysis of the principles of architectural form-giving. The book consists of five chapters: 1) Function, construction and architectural form; 2) On Architectonic form; 3) The elements of architecture; 4) On proportions; and 5) Essays on architecture.

Krier discusses architecture as a pragmatic field of art and offers a profound study of the so-called fundamental architectural truths. The book is richly illustrated with Krier’s own drawings and diagrams, black&white architectural photographs, and art photos. There’s also an index of main concepts and names, and a short list of selected bibliography for further reading.
