Sven Markelius, arkitekt by Eva Rudberg (Arkitektur Förlag 1989) is a comprehensive monograph of the Swedish architect and urban planner who is best known as one of the Nordic pioneers of Functionalism. Markelius’s architectural career lasted over 50 years and left a lasting legacy to what we today know as stringent, rational, but humane and intimate Scandinavian modernism. The book has Swedish texts and it has been illustrated with plenty of black-and-white photographs, architectural drawings, sketches and other intriguing image material.

The book introduces the life and career of Sven Markelius (1889–1972) from his early study years until his last projects. Eva Rudberg, a scholar in the history of modern Swedish architecture, presents the development of Markelius’s architectural thinking and explains the main principles of his architectural approach through the numerous in-depth project analyses. The book has five main chapters the topics of which are: the debut, new architecture, Folkhemmet and foreign countries, Stockholm’s city planner, and the last years.

The text is in Swedish. The book is richly illustrated with photographs and architectural drawings.
