The Towns and Cities of Czechoslovakia by Dobroslav Líbal (Artia, 1970) presents the history and development of beautiful historical Czech towns such as Prague, Brno, Bratislava and Plzeň.

The author has followed each town through wars and prosperity, through the ‘silver rush’ and along Mother Courage’s trail. In each successive phase of history the superficial changes were great, but the fundamental principles of the nation’s culture remained the same. Anyone who has travelled to Czechoslovakia or who admires its culture will find this book and endless source of information and insight into its towns and cities and the people who built them.
