What Moves Us? Le Corbusier and Asger Jorn in Art and Architecture (ed. Ruth Baumeister; Scheidegger & Spiess, 2015) investigates the close collaboration between Le Corbusier and Asger Jorn, and Le Corbusier’s shift from a rationally grounded towards a poetic, materialist approach to architecture in the postwar period.

Le Corbusier (1887-1965) aimed for nothing less than changing the world and therefore called out for a revolution in architecture and society. As a young student of art in Paris, Asger Jorn collaborated with Le Corbusier on the Pavillon des Temps Nouveaux at the 1937 Paris World Exposition, where he learaned about the capcity of art and architecture to move people. Ever since, the Danish artist was fascinated by architecture as the most public form of art and closely followed Le Corbusier’s building activities and publications.
A rich visual presentation of their art and architecture, reprints of original texts, together with contributions in word an dimage by prominent experts such as Heinz Emigholz, Stanislaus von Moos, Juan Calatrava, Joan Ockman, Kjeld Vindum, and others aim to illustrate what initially moved both artists, how they moved their audiences, and why their works still succeed in moving us today.
