A+U Architecture and Urbanism: Extra Edition 1985/10 features Carlo Scarpa (1906–1978) and his architectural career and production. The editors are Yoshio Yoshida and Toshio Nakamura.
The publication gives an introduction to Scarpa’s personal life and development as an architect and then presents nine of his key works: Possagno Plaster-Cast Gallery, Castelvecchio Museum, Olivetti Showroom, Querini-Sampalia Foundation Ground Floor and Courtyard, Gavina Showroom, Balboni House, Brion Family Cemetery, Banca Popolare di Verona, and Ottolenghi House. Another section in the publication is devoted to Scarpa’s drawings. The theoretical contributions about Carlo Scarpa and his architecture are written by Francesco Dal Co, Fumihiko Maki, Hiromi Fujii, Tadashi Yokoyama, and Shin Takamatsu.
The texts are in Japanese and English. The book has been richly illustrated with architectural photographs (mostly in colour), drawings and other visual material.
The copy in our stock is in nice condition. The pages are clean without any markings, and the glueing of the binding is fine. There is some age-related yellowing on the upper edges of the pages, and the covers show some shelf wear, exposure to light, and signs of use. The colours printed on spine are faded.
