Hyttebok is a fantastic booklet of Scandinavian country houses and holiday villas and traditional country living. Published by Forlaget Bonytt A/S in 1967, the book offers a peek to Scandinavian modernism and the 1960s approach to house design.
The book contains some informative articles about the relation between architecture and landscape, site planning of holiday resorts, the landscaping of a new holiday home, best practices in building materials and construction, the refurbishment of old farmhouses, and typolological studies of various house plans and site layout. The major part of the book consists of project presentations of holiday homes and villas designed by Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish and American architects – including the groundbreaking Sea Ranch project by Esherick, Moore, Lyndon, Trunbull and Whitaker, and the post-war masterpieces by Norwegian Knut Knutsen. The Finnish examples showcased are by Erkki Kairamo, Marjatta and Martti Jaatinen, Osmo Sipari, and Kirsi and Erkki Helamaa. The texts are in Norwegian, but the book has been richly illustrated with black&white photographs, plans, sections, site drawings and detail images.
The copy for sale is in nice condition for its age. It has obviously been read a lot, but the pages are clean and they are neatly in their places. The soft covers show some wear on their edges, and there’s a pencil signature on the flyleaf by its previous owner.
