Utzon: Inspiration – Vision – Architecture (Edition Bløndal, 2008) is a comprehensive and insightful monograph of Jørn Utzon’s architecture. The book has been compiled by Richard Weston.
This book is not a ‘complete works’ and contains no definitive list of projects: these are left to future scholarship. It is, however, comprehensive and contains all the buildings, objects and designs Utzon especially values, and others which enrich our understanding of the range and development of his ideas. Utzon has read the text, corrected errors of fact, and commented on aspects of interpretation, but he has not interfered with the expression of my views. It will, however, already be apparent that his is not a dispassionate critical or historical assessment. I have done my best to present the salient personal and professional facts surrounding Utzon’s career accurately, but I write unashamedly out of love for the work. All those involved in its production hope that the book will excite new generations of architects and students about Utzon’s work , and thereby contribute to the debates of the new century – not least by acting as a reminder of architectural values which seem to be everywhere under threat.
