Abitare No 216 Luglio-Agosto 1983 Finlandia is a theme issue that showcases Finnish art, design, architecture and culture. The articles present history of Helsinki and its characteristics such as ship yards and Katajanokka Jugendstil architecture; architects Saarinen, Gesellius & Lindgren and Alvar Aalto, some traditional wooden towns, and the landscape of the archipelago. The issue also features some contemporary architectural projects such as Juha Leiviskä’s Puolivälikangas church in Oulu, Säkylä nursery (Järvinen & Airas, 1980), extension to the Parliament building, Helsinki, and Kari Virta’s Oulu University.
The texts are in Italian and English; summaries are available in German, French and Spanish. The publication has been richly illustrated with photograph, and other marketing imagery.
