Acanthus 1992: The Art of Standards – Standardien taide (Suomen rakennustaiteen museo, 1992) collects contemporary research of Alvar Aalto’s early standardisation designs, Aulis Blomstedt’s studies of proportions and the Pythagorean harmonies, and constructivist architecture of Ekaterinburg/Sverdlovsk. The contributions are by Juhani Pallasmaa, Erkki Vanhakoski, Elina Standertskjöld, Vladimir A. Degtyarov, and Riitta Nikula. The publication has been edited by Marja-Riitta Norri and Kristiina Paatero.
Acanthus was the international yearbook of the Museum of Finnish Architecture. According to Marja-Riitta Norri, then director of the Museum, the Museum’s target was to combine material on the recent history of architecture, general theory, current international themes and contemporary Finnish architecture.
The texts are in Finnish and English. The illustrations consist of black & white photographs and architectural drawings.
