Alvar Aalto edited by Karl Fleig (Thames and Hudson, 1975) is a pocket-size paperback that showcases all the major works by Alvar Aalto and his office.
The contents – which mostly consists of black-and-white photographs and architectural drawings – has been adapted from the two-volume monograph Alvar Aalto published in 1962 and 1971. The projects cover Aalto’s full career and are presented chronologically and by type: Urban design, Theatres and cultural buildings, Exhibition buildings and museums; Paimio sanatorium; Educational facilities; Libraries; Sports centres; Office and administration buildings; Factories; Town halls, Churches; Family houses; Apartment blocks and high-rise buildings, and Furniture. Each project is accompanied by a short project description. According to the blurb, Fleig has compiled these project notes in collaboration with the architect.
The copy of our stock is in reasonably good condition. The covers show some slight signs of wear and use, and the edges of the pages show yellowing. The pages are clean and the binding is fine, however. The front flyleaf has a pencil signature.
