This listing is the 1st volume of the three-part monograph of architect Alvar Aalto and the main architectural works of his office. Alvar Aalto Complete Works Volume 1 covers the years 1922–1962 from the Finnish Theatre in Turku (1927) to the Winter War Monument in Suomussalmi (1960).
The book contains thorough but concise project descriptions with ample illustrations: black&white photographs, model photographs, early sketches, plans, sections, isometric drawings, site layouts, details and so forth. There is also an introductory essay by Göran Schildt, Aalto’s biographer and art historian. All the texts are in German, English, and French.
The copy in stock is in relatively good condition. The dust jacket has some tears and considerable wear, but the cloth-bound book and the pages are in good shape. The front flyleaf has been stamped by the previous owner.
