The exhibition Nordisk Klassicism – Nordic Classicism 1910–1930 was co-produced by the Museum of Finnish Architecture in collaboration with the Norwegian Museum of Architecture, Archives of Modern Danish Architecture, and the collection of architectural drawings of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. The exhibition was curated by architect Simo Paavilainen and it was on display first in Jyväskylä, Finland from where this unique presentation traveled to Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Aarhus and Rome. This publication is the Nordisk Klassicism – Nordic Classicism 1910–1930 exhibition catalog.
This rarely available book is an in-depth study of the pre-modern neo-classical period in design and architecture in the Nordic countries. The authors include Juhani Pallasmaa, Simo Paavilainen, Henrik O. Anderssen, Carl Petersen, Lisbet Balslev Jørgensen, Christian Norberg-Schulz and Kenneth Frampton. As Henrik O. Anderssen writes in his essay Modern Classicism in Norden 1910–1930, Nordic Classicism “represents a disturbance in the heroic tale of modern architecture” as it has been told since the 1930s. This catalog still provides the only available, comprehensive account of the unique northern adaptation of the Classical language of architecture.
The copy which we currently have in stock is in good condition. The only visible faults are the slight shelf wear and the slight yellowing on the edges of the pages.
