Contemporary Mexican Design and Architecture, by Khristaan Villela, Ellen Bradbury, and Logan Wagner (Gibbs Smith 2002), represents the best of new residential architecture in Mexico.

In the mid-twentieth century, architects like Luis Barragán, Juan O’Gorman, Mathias. Goeritz, and others were the first advocates of Euroamerican Modernist design in Mexico. Local variants of the Bauhaus and International Style dominated Mexican design after Barragán, with the key addition of color.
Contemporary Mexican Design and Architecture presents homes designed by thirteen prominent architects in Mexico today. It represents a spectrum of responses to both Euroamerican Modernism and native Mexican interest in bright colors. Contemporary Mexican architects offer something for every taste, from the clean Modernist homes of Isaac Broid, Teodoro González de León, Felix Sánchez, J. B. Johnson, Enrique Norten, Carlos Santos Maldonado, and Abraham Zabludovsky to the passionate color of Jorge Alessio Robles and José de Yturbe. The houses of Jose Luis Esquerra and Agustin Hernández present personal approaches to architectural style, on the one hand Mediterranean-inspired fantasy and on the other an ultramodern Futurist aesthetic.
