Northern Factor: New Generation of the North is a catalogue for a travelling exhibition which was produced by the Museum of Finnish Architecture in 1996. The catalogue showcases projects from 25 young architects of the 1990s from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland – including contemporary leading names like Johan Celsing, Matti Sanaksenaho, Snøhetta and Gert Wingårdh.
According to Marja-Riitta Norri, the then Director of the Museum and the editor of the catalogue, this selection of 1990s Nordic architecture displays “clear forms, strong colours, expressive use of materials, articulation of volumes, which are achieved through simplification and which, in some cases, is combined with structurality.” The book is an excellent companion for anyone interested in the transition period between postmodernism and metamodernism of the 2000s or the early phases of contemporary Nordic architectural practices.
The copy for sale is in good condition except for the delicate, transparent dust jacket which has a few tears and signs of ageing.
