Daniel Libeskind: Countersign (Architectural Monographs No 16; Academy Editions 1991)gives an intriguing introduction to Libeskind’s most avantgarde works. Contributions by Peter Eisenman, Kurt W. Foster, John Hejduk, and Aldo Rossi.

Daniel Libeskind’s approach to design and theory has turned around expectations of architectural drawings and writing. Here we see text as a visual element as well as a piece to be read; while drawings themselves can be ‘read’, as Peter Eisenman has written, exceeding ‘the existing cause and effect of drawing/building or drawing/model by a destruction of it’.
The projects featured in this Monograph range from Micromegas and Chamber Works to the Three Lessons in Architecture, exhibitioned at the Venice Biennale in 1985, for which Daniel Libeskind was awarded the Leone di Pietra prize. Also included are the Berlin ‘City Edge’ proposal, part of the International Bauausstellung (IBA), and his latest work, the Extension to the Berlin Museum with the Jewish Museum
