During the past seven years (1988–95) our office has been involved with projects in a variety of locations including Japan, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Korea, and Norway. These experiences reinforce my convictions about anchoring architecture to the history of site. This philosophy is fundamental to developing concepts for a relevant, meaningful architecture in a time when architects travel around the world more than ever, when many countries commission foreign architects, and when architecture is becoming increasingly cut off from basic principles that for its local and global relevance.
