Aldo van Eyck (1918–1999) was a Dutch architect and one of the most intriguing theorists and mavericks of structuralist Modernism. This monograph from 1982 contains richly illustrated essays, a biography, and a comprehensive list of projects and works, and a selected bibliography written and compiled by Herman Hertzberger, Addie van Roijen-Wortmann, and Francis Strauven. The book also contains Aldo van Eyck’s own essay Building a house (De bouw van een huis) composed around some of his projects and excerpts from his influential writings since early 1960s. The texts are in English and Dutch.
Architecture need do no more,
nor should it ever do less,
than assist man’s homecoming.
