Dancing Building showcases the architectural design process and details of the Prague landmark Dancing Building which was designed by Frank Gehry and Vlado Milunić and completed in 1996. The richly illustrated book has been edited by Irena Fialová and it was published by Zlatý řez and Prototype Editions in 2003.
The contents describe the design process from early sketches to completion. The book also discusses the history of the site, the context, the client’s perspective, the reception by the press, and the architectural ideas of the two architects collaborating on the project: American Frank Gehry (b. 1929) and Czech Vlado Milunić (b. 1941).
When everybody else is ready for the ending, I’m just ready to begin… It’s been the story of my life.
– Frank Gehry, Dancing Building, p. 19.The function of architecture should not be understood merely in its narrowest sense; it is a question of communicability. Each building breathes something; with the Dancing Building, for example, it is obvious at first glance that it’s not simply about commerce, but that it’s a love story.
