Design by Choice by Reyner Banham (ed. Penny Sparke; Academy Editions 1981) is an anthology of Banham’s essays on Modernism, design and architecture.
There is no easy way of categorizing and describing the work of the architectural writer, Reyner Banham. His writings, which stretch over the last twenty-five years, are characterized by a rich diversity which reflects a flexible and spontaneous relationship with the world. Banham is not a pedantic architectural historian, nor is he interested in self-referential monuments. The context of his architecture and design is strongly humanistic and this perspective constantly determines his choice of subject matter.
