In Detail: Work Environments – Spatial Concepts, Usage Strategies, Communications (ed. Christian Schittich, Birkhäuser Edition Detail 2011) explores the impacts of new working processes and digitalisation on the architectural design of workspaces.
The book opens with several expert articles with contributions by Christian Schittich, Martin Kleibrink, Dieter Grömling, Burkhard Remmers, Claudia Hamm Bastow, Sylke Neumann, Rainer Machner, Katja Schölzig, Andreas Wagner and Karin Schakib-Ekbatan. The main part of the book studies various kinds of workplace solutions such as banks, offices, warehouses and research institutes. The project examples are by leading international firms such as David Chipperfield Architects, Hermann Kaufmann, SANAA and many others. All the texts are in English, and as always in the volumes in the In Detail series, the rich illustration consists of high-quality photographs and detailed architectural drawings.
The demands made on our work environments have changed fundamentally in recent years: changes in working processes, increasing digitisation of working media and channels of communication, as well as different forms of working and new professional fields, promote flexible spatial concepts and innovative usage strategies.
