Construction and Design Manual: Townhouses is a much sought-after, sold-out architects’ reference book about the recently re-discovered townhouse housing typology.
The book gives a comprehensive analysis of the political strategies, historical roots and theoretical concepts behind the townhouse concept. The author, Hans Stimmann, focuses especially on the urban conditions behind the current townhouse boom and gives around 50 examples of realised projects. The contents has been thematised into Ensembles, Row houses, In-fill Developments and Urban Villas. There’s also a specific section about architectural details such as the kitchen, the bathroom, the staircase, the façade, the entrance and so forth.
As in all volumes of the DOM Publisher’s Construction and Design Manual series, the book has been illustrated with large-format photographs and true to scale drawings and plans. The book also contains technical specifications such as cost efficiency information. The text is in English.
