Grace and Architecture (Rakennustieto, 1998) tells the story of the production and role of the Finnish architect brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen in the historiography of modern Finnish architecture. The book is written by Roger Connah, a British architecture critic and expert on Finnish architecture. The Finnish edition of the book is Armo ja arkkitehtuuri (1999).
Roger Connah examines the closed and dogmatic approach of Finnish architecture and the impact of the architectural debate, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s, on the appreciation and visibility or invisibility of the Temppeliaukio Church (Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, 1961-69) in books and exhibitions on Finnish architecture. Connah also analysed the relatively unknown Espoonlahti Church (Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen, 1980) for its multi-faceted and organic architecture. Grace and Architecture is illustrated with black and white architectural photographs and some drawings.
