Storybook Helsinki and Beyond (WSOY, 2012) is a photo book that tells a personal and emotional story of Helsinki Jugendstil architecture. The author, Cody Douglas Oreck, wife of the former American Ambassador to Finland, weaves an idiosyncratic narrative about the development of Finnish cultural identity and the architectural style of Finnish National Romanticism both in Helsinki and elsewhere in Finland.
The book contains more than 300 photographs by a Romanian photographer Octavian Bâlea. His delicious images are dark and deep in colour and his camera has found new, dramatic angles towards Jugenstil architectural details.
The copy for sale is in good condition. The dust cover shows some minor signs of wear, but otherwise this lovely book is in great shape.
